Abstract:Purpose: To investigate the expression of transforming growth factor β1 (TGFβ1) and transforming growth factor β3 (TGFβ3) and their relationship to the biological behavior of bladder transitional cell carcinoma(bladder TCC). Methods:38 samples of primary bladder TCC were determined for their expression of TGFβ1 and TGFβ3 by ABC immunohistochemical staining. Results: The expression of TGFβ1 and TGFβ3 in patients with poor differentiated, invaded or recurring bladder TCC was lower than that in patients of well differentiated ,superficial or nonrecurring bladder TCC . Conclusions: TGFβ1 and TGFβ3 may be negative regulators for growth of bladder TCC. Decreased or deficient cytoplasm expression of transforming growth factor β may cause malignant proliferation and progression of bladder TCC.
