Abstract:Purpose:To evaluate the relationship between the expression of Cathepsin D (CD) and biological behavior of BTCC. Methods: 33 paraffin embedded tissue specimens of BTCC were examined by the standard ABC immunohistochemical technique. Results: The results revealed that all normal transitional cells were weakly stained, and the moderately or strongly positive rate of CD in BTCC group was significantly higher than in normal control group (P<0.05). Fisher′s accurate analysis showed that over expression of CD in tumor cells closely correlated with different pathological grades(P<0.05), clinical stages(P<0.05), number of lesions (P<0.05) and postoperative recurrence (P<0.05). Conclusions: It was suggested that over expression of CD closely correlated with grades and stages and it may played a important role on the process of invasiveness and metastasis of BTCC by lowering the function of natural defenses.
