The management of urethral stricture (Report of 104 cases)

Abstract Purpose:To evaluate the therapeutic effects of different methods for the management of urethral stricture .Methods:Materials of 104 cases of patients with urethrostenosis were reviewed.Results:15 cases out of 104 were treated with cold knife,the cure rate being86.7%; 78 cases were treated with excision of the area of fibrosis and a primary reanastomosis of the normal ends of the urethra, the effective rate being 96.1%; Badenoch operation cured 11 cases of posterior urethrostenosis.Conclusions:lf a urethral catheter or guided wire is passed through the stricture, internal urethrotony was believed to be the treatment of choice for urethrostenosis. Open reconstraction is the most reliable technique for the treatment of posterior urethral stricture complicated with urethro-rectal fistula.
