LCH引起非特异性炎症反应，包括发烧，嗜睡和体重减轻。器官受累也可能导致更具体的症状。

骨：单焦和多焦病中最常见的症状是疼痛的骨肿胀。头骨最常受影响，其次是上肢长骨和扁平骨头。手和脚的渗透是不寻常的。骨溶解性病变可导致病理性骨折。[8]
皮肤：常见的是皮疹，从鳞状红斑病变到间隙区明显的红色丘疹。高达80％的LCH患者头皮上有大量喷发。
骨髓：伴有超级感染的全血细胞减少症通常意味着预后不良。贫血可能是由于许多因素造成的，并不一定意味着骨髓浸润。

病理生理学
朗格汉斯细胞组织细胞增生症（LCH）的发病机制是一个有争议的问题。目前正在进行调查以确定LCH是反应性（非癌性）还是肿瘤性（癌性）过程。支持LCH反应性的论据包括自发缓解的发生，病变组织中树突状细胞和旁观者细胞（称为细胞因子风暴的现象）的多种细胞因子的广泛分泌，良好的预后和相对良好的存活率。器官功能障碍或风险器官受累[15] [16]

治疗
有人建议对朗格汉斯细胞组织细胞增生症患者进行长达18年的管理指南。[30] [31] [32] [33]治疗以疾病程度为指导。孤立性骨病变可通过切除或有限放射治疗，儿童剂量为5-10Gy，成人为24-30Gy。然而全身性疾病通常需要化疗。全身性类固醇的使用是常见的，单独或辅助化疗。局部类固醇乳膏适用于皮肤病变。内分泌缺乏通常需要终身补充，例如尿崩症的去氨加压素，可用作滴鼻剂。单独或组合的化学治疗剂如烷化剂，抗代谢物，长春花生物碱可导致弥漫性疾病的完全缓解。

预测
非常适合单焦点疾病。对于多灶性疾病，60％有慢性病，30％达到缓解，死亡率高达10％。[34]

流行
LCH通常影响1至15岁的儿童，发病率在5至10岁之间。在10岁以下的儿童中，年发病率被认为是20万分之一; [35]而成人甚至更罕见，约为56万分之一。[36]据报道，老年人很少见。[37]它在高加索人群中最为普遍，对女性的影响是女性的两倍。[38]在其他人群中，男性的患病率略高于女性。[39]

LCH通常是散发性和非遗传性疾病，但在有限数量的病例中已经注意到家族聚集。 Hashimoto-Pritzker病是Hand-Schüller-Christian病的先天性自愈性变种。[40]
