  1989年以前,人们以“非甲非乙型肝炎”表示那些未知病原所致的肝炎。丙型肝炎病毒(HCV)的发现打破了这种僵局,但发现它是肠道外非甲非乙型肝炎的主要病原〔1〕。后来,Reyes等成功地分离出戊型肝炎病毒(HEV),而它则是经肠道传播非甲非乙型肝炎的主要病原〔2〕。1994年,Deka等〔3〕用一名患有散发性非甲非乙型肝炎的法国病人粪便接种猕猴,在猕猴体内找到一种直径为27~32 nm的病毒颗粒,其基因组长约20kb,过早乐观地将其命名为HFV,后因该项研究未能重复进行而难以为人们接受。另外一些病毒,如EBV、CMV、HSV等,在某些特定条件下亦能导致肝炎发生,但此种情况极少见。尽管如此,仍有20%的急性肝炎,3%~9%的肝硬化,30%~50%的暴发性肝炎找不到可解释的原因。……
